Today I received an email and because it basically applies to people who have reached the final chapter, the Golden Years, I have decided to include it here. It is titled "New Wine for Seniors." It read, "California vintners in the Napa Valley area, which primarily produce Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines, have developed a new hybrid grape that acts as an anti-diuretic. It is expected to reduce the number of trips older people have to make to the bathroom during the night." The new wine will be marketed as PINO MORE!"
Now I ask you. How funny is this? I guess some might laugh. I guess it is a joke but I didn't laugh. Someone told me once that I'm always thinking outside the box. Well, that might
explain why I saw this "joke" as an insult to seniors.
Let's face it..there's no joking about cancer, shingles, , diabetes or arthritis or any of the other debilitating diseases we suffer so why joke about "the number of trips older people have to make to the bathroom during the night?" Obviously the person who wrote this joke isn't yet a senior because seniors will tell you that making a lot of trips to the bathroom every night isn't funny.
First of all your sleep is disrupted each time you have to get up. Even younger people whose parents interrupt their sleep while they are snoring away on the couch will tell you having their sleep disrupted isn't funny! Not getting a good night's sleep can be debilitating for seniors. Their energy the next day is down the drain!
Oftentimes when a senior has night after night of interrupted sleep stress can easily set in.
It becomes much harder to get up in the morning and be able to focus on the plans for the day. Think about it. Seniors have spent countless hours anticipating a simple life for the golden years and then when they get there they're often too tired to enjoy them. That, my friends, isn't funny either!
What really upsets me as a senior who often has to make many trips to the bathroom during the night is that the next day I feel like crap, and sometimes it takes me two or three days to recuperate from just one night of interrupted sleep. Also each time I have to get up I am usually ending one of the best dreams I've ever had! I can't wait to get back to the bed hoping it will continue but that never happens and that isn't always funny either.
On the other hand, I guess we won't know if this wine works until we try it, and who knows, it might work but are we going to laugh about this anymore? Well, you might laugh but not me.
I'm heading for the store to see if they've got this wine on the shelf yet.!
