Why not fly ?

You know you have reached the final chapter when at 70 years of age some brat behind the counter asks you for your I.D. I stood there looking at him in disbelief. "You've got to be kidding me! You want my I.D.? I'm old, man!"

He said, "Doesn't matter, ma'am. I don't care how old you are. It's just part
of my job and I've got to see your I.D.!" I had to control my urge to jump over the counter.
I looked at him in astonishment. Did he realize what doom he was participating in..? This is America, man, and you're not getting my I.D. Obviously I'm far from being a minor so why..why..would this ol' lady have to show her I.D. for anything. It's nobody's business who I am. I walked out telling him he could tell his boss to take a flying leap!

Principles are a mainstay during the final chapter. If you don't defend them who will? Take the apartment I looked at last week. I walked into the office and the gal asked why I was there. I told her I wanted to see the 1-bdrm apartment they had available. She said, "Fine. Just give me your driver's license and I'll be glad to show it to you."

I stood there a minute asking myself if I was dreaming. It was happening again. I have to give her my license before I can see the apartment? Can't she just make a photocopy of it and put that in the drawer? "No, we can't do it that way. We have to have your license." Wait a minute. What happens if somebody breaks in the office and steals my license out of the drawer? I asked why, for what? "Well, if you were to attack me or cause me physical harm then they would know who who did it." My God, woman, just because a person's license is in the drawer doesn't mean he or she is guilty of anything. Besides, do I look like somebody who is going to attack you? I'm an old lady!
I can't believe it. This sounds like something the government would do. She turned to me and said, "Well, this complex is owned by the government." It was over. I was out of there this time telling her that she could tell the government to take a flying leap!

On the way back to the car all I wondered what the sam hill has happened to us..you know, to America. I can remember when we didn't even lock our doors at night. And now this is what we've become, a society of people who live in fear of each other.

I came home really angry and alarmed. I went to the neighbor who had just moved in next door and told her of my plight. She said having to give up your driver's license to see a rental is now happening everywhere and even here where we live. I said no way! Yep, she had to give hers to our manager.

Let's sit back just a few minutes and think about this because anybody having to give up their I.D. for any reason other than drunk driving is against my principles! Consider this. You give her your I.D. She takes you to the apartment and beats the crap out of you. How the sam hill will you identify yourself to the authorities when they arrive and you have no I.D.?
Yep, it's something to think about, maybe not for very long, but I'll tell you this. I will stand true to my principles until the end. And as for them, whoever they are, who want my I.D.? Well, they can take a flying leap!
